Natura11y Version 5 Launches with Upgraded Accessibility and New Core Features
3 minute read
At Avidano Digital, accessibility is personal work for us. Through lived experience, we know what it's like to face barriers—both physical and digital—that limit participation and erode trust. We also understand that accessibility isn’t on everyone's radar. And if it is, accessibility can be challenging to understand and implement—requiring planning, effort, and ongoing care.
Accessibility can feel like a big lift.
That’s why we created Natura11y, our open-source, inclusive design system. It helps us move beyond talk and provide solutions that make accessibility more attainable and practical for our clients.
Natura11y version 5 is here. Here’s a look at what’s new:
What’s new in version 5
In Natura11y’s latest major release, we introduced new components—including navigation options for both desktop and mobile—to cover a broader range of use cases. We also enhanced accessibility across our existing components, building on the strong foundation established in earlier versions.
Here’s a quick look at what’s new:
- The “Primary Nav” component is now “Main Menu”, reorganized for better semantics and easier customization
- Flyout menu for full-height, off-canvas navigation
- Nested Nav for complex content structures
- Badge component
- Pagination component
- Motion preferences are respected to reduce discomfort for people with motion sensitivity
- More consistent and accessible interactions for modals, accordions, navigation, and forms
Why it matters
Did you know, in 2026, web accessibility is getting worse—not better? According to WebAIM’s WebAIM Million 2026 report:
- 95.9% of homepages fail basic accessibility standards (WCAG 2)
- Accessibility errors increased by 10.1% year over year (reversing prior improvements)
- 83.9% of pages have low contrast text, the most common accessibility issue
We encourage you to read the full report and reflect on what it means. With new technologies like AI vibe-coding, and prompt-driven websites on the rise, the accessibility gap continues to grow.
Accessibility is about progress, not perfection. It’s both a mindset and a technical skill. Natura11y is one part of our process—one we continuously refine—to help our clients move faster, avoid common accessibility issues, and focus on outcomes instead of fixes.
