UX Researcher
Yonas Samuel is a senior UX designer and research-driven problem solver with deep experience creating user-centered digital experiences for federal agencies, healthcare systems, and mission-driven organizations. He specializes in user research, interaction design, data-informed decision-making, and designing intuitive systems that balance user needs with organizational goals. With a background that spans healthcare, public service, enterprise support platforms, and major national brands, Yonas brings clarity, structure, and thoughtful rigor to every engagement.
At Avidano Digital, as our UX Researcher, Yonas leads UX research and interaction design with a focus on grounding every solution in evidence and empathy. He excels at uncovering user needs through interviews, surveys, analytics, and competitive analysis — then translating those insights into wireframes, prototypes, and design systems that improve usability, strengthen engagement, and support long-term scalability. His process is methodical, collaborative, and deeply human-centered.
Before joining Avidano Digital, Yonas served as a Senior UX Designer at Reingold, where he led the redesign of a major children’s hospital website, conducting extensive patient and caregiver research, journey mapping, site mapping, and producing more than 50 high-fidelity wireframes to guide the experience. He also managed multiple federal digital projects for USDA, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and other agencies — supporting end-to-end UX discovery, research, and design.
His achievements include conducting workshops for stakeholder alignment, presenting research findings to executive teams, and boosting website conversions for the NFL by 15% through data-driven UX and UI optimization. He has delivered actionable recommendations to more than 20 federal and private-sector clients, strengthening their platforms with clear, research-backed improvements.
Before Reingold, Yonas worked as a User Experience Designer for multiple clients as a full-time remote contractor, delivering site architecture solutions, supporting content strategy and product roadmaps, conducting A/B tests, and producing illustrations, diagrams, and design assets that strengthened user comprehension. He also maintained and enhanced digital experiences across a variety of CMS platforms.
Earlier in his career, Yonas served as a Solution Engineering Analyst at Appian, where he handled more than 2,300 support cases with a 98% satisfaction rate, improved outdated interfaces, authored key knowledge base articles, and streamlined licensing and administrative workflows to reduce response times by 30%. His work ensured smoother onboarding and offboarding experiences for enterprise clients across Appian’s cloud platform.
Yonas holds a B.S. from Virginia Tech, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and as an Honors Scholar, and a UX/UI certification from George Washington University, where he completed an intensive, research- and prototyping-focused program with a 4.0 GPA.
His technical toolkit spans Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, InVision, Miro, Google Analytics, Airtable, Jira, Confluence, Excel, and emerging AI/ML-driven design workflows. His skills include user interviews, personas, journey mapping, card sorting, tree testing, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, data analytics, and responsive design.
Yonas is known for his calm presence, analytical clarity, and ability to translate complex findings into intuitive, actionable design solutions. He brings a steady, research-first approach that helps teams build digital experiences grounded in evidence, aligned with user needs, and capable of supporting organizational goals at scale.
